ok, saw ur additional details, so my answer would not be in a wrong direction :>
this is how i normally clear my dvd/cd rw:
1. backup ur dvd/cd if it is important (the backup tools r listed in the following source)
2. use DVD managing tool for doing the erase work which would make less damage to ur discs (the tools can also be found in the following source but in differenct sections..)
hope my answer helps..

first u should have a dvd writer to do this. it's easy if ur using Windows XP as your operating system. once u load the cd/dvd, a window will pop up asking what operation u want to do, open the cd and the window that will pop up the next has an option on the left column if u want to erase the dvd/ cd. just click on that and follow the instructions. :)

First you make sure the disc you have is a rewritable cdr or dvdr. Otherwise you can't. If it is, you can erase it in many cd/dvd writing programs, such as Nero. There will be an option under "burn" somewhere, check the help files.

Hey, ok, as you probably know, you can only erase rw discs..
All you have to do in order to do that is copy a blank disc onto the disc you wish to erase. I guess it depends on which program you use but i have 2 disc drives and i just copy a blank disc onto the rw disc and "MAGIC" you have a erased rw disc

You can't, once its burned, its a done deal. Only the letter RW (Rewrittable) can be erased. They behave just like a real hard drive, you can delete single files, reformat it, or overwrite existing files.

CD-R = writing
CD-RW = writing/eracing

on the desktop, open "My Computer"

double click the drive that has your CD in it and at the right it will say erace....something like that

You can't DVD/CD- Rs are single record. To be able to re use DVD/CDs buy DVD/CD RWs.

if its a rewritable cd its easy, if its not, and you have data on the cd you dont want others to read, just break the disk or damage it badly (a few cuts will do) so that others cant read the disk.

You can't. You need DVD R/W or CD R/W. And a "burner" drive.
