I am in 5th grade and I need a science fair idea. Please, no volcanoes.

My idea was a Solar system made out of fruit or food.

How about showing the effects of salt on an ice cube.

If you put salt on an ice cube and put a string across it where the ice was then the string will stick to the ice cube.

Research why this happens.

You could also do a project on different types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, ...I forget the rest haha. You could research what the differences are between them and demonstrate the difference in softness/hardness of each. Which types can scratch class? How do these rocks form?

Another thing you could do is something on space. How do the planets rotate.

A good idea would be to study gravity. If you go on top of a tall building and drop a 5lb Bowling ball and a marble at the same time, will they land at the same time?? You can use it in an easier sense..like from the table. And what slows objects down? (hint: a piece of paper is going to take a longer time to float down than a marble).

Um...And how about a project on static electricity! That's always fun...why is it that when you rub a balloon on something wool, it will make your hand stand up when put above your head? And why is it that when you rub your feet against the carpet and touch the doorknob, you get shocked? Why do people sometimes shock other people?

I don't know..Maybe they're too simple? I don't know. I never entered a science fair, but I've done plenty of science projects....*shrugs*

Hope that helped.

I've got blue prints, pictures and lots of advice on how to make a working model of a piece of ancient siege equipment from hand held size to the stuff of legends.
