People seem to classify most mainstream rock music today as emo because of the lyrics.

When to think about it, considering emo means "emotional" which would entitle lyrics that actually make sense, mean something, and tell a story, then isn't country emo?

Country music is, in most cases, a story, about break ups, love, death, parties, getting the girl, and so on. So isn't that emotional music?

Then question how say, Panic! at the Disco are emo. Read the lyrics people. The songs are emotional in any way, and are fun little dittys in most cases. Kinda like pop.

You are all giving opinions on why the genre of emo exisits. Thats not the question. I'm asking why emo isn't associated with country.

Emo isn't even a music genre, its a scene. Remember that.

Because no one can figure out an exact definition for emo. Even though it already has one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotional_hardcore
Real emo is not what most people think, ex. Dashboard Confessional, Panic! At the Disco, Taking Back Sunday. Its a type of hardcore punk.

All music is emotional, whether they express it through their lyrics, or music alone.

Most of the bands that are labelled emo today are actually pop-rock. And I hear a lot of people claiming bands are emo based on the way theyre dressed, which is really dumb. But thats also a reason why country bands arent considered emo, theyre not in the emo scene. Ive defiently heard some country singers rap before. No one considers it rap though, because theyre part of the country scene, theys isnt g' nuff to be rap. Its not true in all cases.. but most bands dress similar to the way other bands in their genre do.

Anyways, the main reason theyre not considered emo would have to be the fact that they dont have the "emo sound" Which is either, pop-rock, acoustic rock, indie, and sometimes post-hardcore. Genres dont have to make sense anymore.

really the music of today (ie Panic! and Fallout Boy) are just distortions of the original emo genre. they may not be as sad as Bright Eyes or Dashboard Confessional or Brand New, but the influence is still there. Not to mention that atleast half of the people who listen to these guys are emo kids. i guess we could really call bands from today Pop Emo or (since they also have Indie influences) Indie Emo.

Country and Emo are essentially two different things. They have different styles of music. Emo isn't just lyrics. It has to do with the music itself as well.

People these days conseider anything that makes the band seem a little bit depressed or even just sad emo. Just because they wear all black and wristbands doesn't mean that they're emo. My answer, people need to ******* grow up and learn what real music is.

Emo skill emotional and convinced it truly is genuine that persons imagine that they self damage themselves and so on. simply by the undeniable fact that is what maximum of them do. Like I undergo in concepts a woman killing herself because she reported it grow to be portion of being emo. also, lots of the emo bands sings depressing songs which make you sense like existence sucks, that no one comprehend you, and so on. I truly have a pal who's emo, i don't believe of he cut back himself yet he tried to kill himself once. He is likewise depressive and cries a lot for no reason.

I think it's because emo isn't ever really seen as a classification. It has a kind of freedom where everyone can classify what they want to as emo.
