Puma concolor = cougar, mountain lion, or puma, and there are many other regional names (40 or so). See the wiki.

An animal can have bunches of "common names." Usually, these are local names. If the animal has a large range that cover a lot of localities, it could have as many names as there are places. That is why there is a system of scientific naming. Each any has one and only one scientific name, so people can be sure of which animal they are discussing without getting into the messy business of local names.

There are several (though more common in plants); common names were often just local names...

-- Mahi mahi / dolphin fish is Coryphaena hippurus

-- Saddle-tail snapper / scarlet sea perch is Lutjanus malabaricus

-- cougar /puma is Puma concolor

Red Panda,Lesser Panda = (Ailurus fulgens)
Mountain Lion,Panther,Catamount,Puma, Cougar = (Felis concolor)

Plenty of birds fit the requirements. There are lots of local names but one scientific name. For instance
Eudyptula minor - little penguin, blue penguin, little blue penguin, fairy penguin, white-flippered penguin.
