I'm in middle school and would really, really like to go on a foreign exchange program next year when I'll be in grade eight, but I've looked everywhere and there's nothing that caters to students in Canada. I'm willing to go anywhere outside of North America, and if anybody has info on a program, I'd really appreciate it. :)

Check out the Committee for Safety of Foreign Exchange Students first. There is good information on what to look for in an exchange company. Don't depend on the experience of one person with one agency. Find out what an agency will do if you get in trouble. You will be in a foreign country so youneed an agency that you can depend on if you end up in a filthy house or don't get along with the host family. Last thing, no criminal checks are done on host families in foreign countries so watch out. I am glad the other people had exchanges that were okay but it can go bad so check out everything.

well I'd suggest a program called ISE ONTARIO (if you're from Ontario) www.iseontario.on.ca and if not, there's a "rest of English Canada" equivalent called CEEF (http://www.ceef.ca/new-site/students/students-idx.html). I used this program twice and it's a great one because most programs are so expensive (this one will cost you $2000 approx). If ypu're not satisfied then the Government of Canada has a website dedicated to listing all the possible exchange services for Canadians.

talk with your guidance counselor. they should have options for you. you might want to wait until high school, or maybe even college, though. there are more programs that are available to older students. kudos to you for being interested though! international studies are great opportunities for students (of all ages).
