They would bounce ideas off each other all the time. They would usually write separate from one another. I'm just glad they met each other at that church social in summer of 1957.

because it doesnt take express collaboration from two members of a band--"hey man, lets write this song" a lot of it happens in practice when things get fleshed out. after the beatles broke up and paul and john werent around each other anymore, the genius that WAS wasnt there anymore.
but george harrison was the best writer for the beatles. by far.

Despite the fact that John & Paul penned their songs individually, the others (Ringo & George) had a fair bit of input into each's songs. Collectively, The Beatles wrote and performed some of the best music of all time and the four of them all had a unique style that when combined, just "clicked". Well, that's how I preceive it.
