I have a computer with 224 MB of RAM. I can do a lot of stuff, but lately I noticed that the recommended (and sometimes minimum) RAM are much more than what I have. Is there anyway that I can upgrade my RAM without having to buy a whole new computer?

Wait, do I need to SEND in my tower for it to be done?

Yes, you are most likely able to add more RAM to your computer.

If hearing about technical stuff gives you a headache (or don't wanna open your computer / install on your own), the best thing for you to do is take your computer to a large electronic store that handles repairs and installations. For instance, Best Buy, Circuit City, and CompUSA are around me. They will be able to look up whether your motherboard can take more RAM than it already has, what type of memory sticks can be installed, etc. And they will install it for you.

IF YOU'D LIKE TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN:

First of all, you need to know how much RAM your motherboard can take. Given that you only have 224MB, I bet it is able to take more, but you wanna know how much more. Read the user's manual or d/l a manual for your model from manifucturor's website.

Once you know that more memory can be installed, the next step is to find out how many RAM slots are available (not occupied) on your motherboard. You can open your computer to check it or go to BIOS when the computer is starting.

If all of the slots are occupied, you may have to take out one, two or all of the sticks that are currently in your computer and replace them with new ones.

The next step is to find out what type of chips are supported by your motherboard and you have to buy the right kind. This information should also be in your owner's manual. but if you don't wanna read it, you can go to http://www.crucial.com/ and type in the make and model of your computer. If they have something that works for your computer, they'll suggest a few specific products that you can purchase.

If the website doesn't come up with any, then you gotta do your own search, meaning finding out what types of chips work on your computer in your manual. The specs of chip that you should pay attention to include the type and speed (such as DDR2, and the speed is indicated by a number such as 400, 533 and 667 etc. ), ECC or non ECC and buffered or non-buffered.

Then, you can go ahead and purchase memory sticks from local/online stores.

Good luck. :D

Absolutely. You just need the technical specs to tell you what kind and how large your RAM can be. If you don't have that, most shops, like Best Buy, can tell what you need.
