The svchost your talking about is a virus not all the processes under svchost are.

It is likely to be that you have not updated your computer to the latest patches available and this has caused your computer to become infected.

Go to this website -> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2354406C-C5B6-44AC-9532-3DE40F69C074&displaylang=en it is a patch that will stop this from happening again.

Also here is a removal tool that will remove the virus for you http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixBlast.exe

If you have an Antivirus program installed on your computer this virus should have been picked up if it was up to date.

If you have no Antivirus then you have a problem. Download a free Antivirus like Avast! Home Edition which is free to use in your home you have to register it all though but registration is free.

Once it is installed reboot your computer and once you have done that it will update automatically for you but do a manual update as well to make sure things are up to scratch then do a complete system scan for any more virus's.

Also if you have no firewall download one and install it because it will help to protect you from some further virii infections and keep hackers out.

DONOT delete svchost.exe. Don't even think about it. [Important: do not confuse svchost, which we are discussing here, with scvhost, which has two letters transposed. They are not the same thing. The presence of scvhost may indicate a virus.]

Above is part of what I have found out on that
I copied the name under search and this took me to a site that will tell you what this is....the svchost is a OS part of your computer.....do a search and find what you need to do if you can which I assume you can since you are logged in here.

SVCHOST is a Windows utility. It handles allocating resources to programs and processes. You can't do anyting about it. It isn't the CPU hog anyway.

svchost is a program needed to run your pc (winXP) however this program could be a virus, just scan your pc and see if you ahve a virus. if you don't have a antivirus (unlikely) or your antivirus doesnt find anything, try an online scan. (this is a good scan http://www.trendmicro.com/hc_intro/default.asp)

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
