Also, can I use the Playtex drop ins with any bottle or does it have to be Playtex bottles? My first baby is due in 2 months and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by all my choices out there! HELP!

There are a ton of bottle styles out there! I hear what you are saying!

I love two brands - Avent and Gerber. They are both larger, so they are easier to hold for both parents and the baby (when they are able to do so). And the Gerber bottles are actually triangular shaped, so when the baby gets older and is learning to hold a bottle, it will not roll around or slip out of their little hands.

To be honest, we used all different kinds with our daughter. But I did find that the Playtex "drop-ins" were more expensive than needed. And I didn't get to experiment with Dr. Browns, but they are supposed to be great as well. With the "drop-ins", you are buying liners all the time. I found it better to just wash up bottles. And now there are brands of bottles that are designed to not use liners, but they are designed to not trap air and pass it to the baby. But our daughter didn't have an issue with that - she used the standard bottles.

Look around and find what works best for you and your lifestyle. My husband and I, though both hold down good jobs, aren't looking to spend tons of money on bottles and stuff for our child, so we got the regular bottles. If you think you would like the Playtex drop ins better, go for it. It will cut down on the baby dish washing, but you will pay for it in the purchase of liners.

Congrats and good luck!!

Well I use drop ins because they are sterile and easy to heat up.
But I am finding that the parents choice brand (Walmart) is as good as the playtex for the liners. You can prevent babies from getting gas as you squeeze out all the air before they drink it and when they are little they find it hard to feed themselves with a regular bottle because of the angle so these can be drunk from any angle and still no air gets in them.
All my friends use them too. I bought the boxed set of bottles and have found them excellent. The liners are designed only for bottles that are made for liners. The parents choice brand would fit any that take them. However Playtex has a huge range of nipples in either latex or silicone and some babies can be fussy about the nipple so these are great as you can try them out but still use the same bottles. Some babies are extemly fussy when changing onto a bottle so introducing them gradually is good. However if you are lucky you will have no problem at all. My first baby was fussy the second will take many different bottle types so hope you find all this useful!

Well I dont know what the best is but with my son I tried several. When he was first born I tried the playtex disposable nursing system (however not all babies will take to these and some Dr's will say they are harder to nurse from), which he didnt take to very well. So we tried the Tri-flow, and then the Dr.Brown which he did well on the nipples are very soft. We then moved him to Vent Air. I really like these bottles very easy to clean and it truely does prevent air bubbles in the liquid in the bottle and does not leak. However he is now going on 8 months and for the last month and a half the only bottles he has wanted are the playtex nursers I dont know if its because he can squeeze the bag or poke the nipple inside the bottle.. We did try the "soothie" but that didnt go over to well.

As for the continuing cost of the liners for the playtex bottles just use the store brands not the national brands and it saves you lots of money. When I was pregnant I came across a sale for the liners a box of 110-4 ounce liners for one dollar {parents choice which is wal-marts brand} and 225-8ounce liners for 1.50. I stocked up on both 4 ounce and 8 ounce. My son is 8 months old and I have never had to buy another box yet. If you are using Playtex dropin's it has to be with a disposable nursing system and as far as I am aware only Playtex makes that type of system. Use store bands sweety will save you LOTS of money and you dont have to use the "drop in" there are just the plain old "bottle liners" but until you are totally familure with how to place the bag in the bottle I suggest you use another bottle {like the ones that cost a dollar at the dollar store} to measure the water ounces out then pour the water into the liner.

I love Dr. Brown's, the assembly is a hassle when making bottles but they are by far the best with gas and colic. Next to them i use Playtex drop-ins and Playtex Vent Air. The are all great! Good Luck and Congrats!!

I work in the Infant and Toddler program and have a 7 month old baby. Currently, I work with a woman who just came from the NICU and she suggested that the best bottles have a long, thin nipple that is cross cut. I loved the Dr. Brown's for when my son was little, and still use them. But I am getting tired of washing the inserts, so I am currently switching to the Vent Aire bottles, but not the ones with the wide nipples, the ones with the thin nipples. I used the Vent Aires with my older son and found them to be great in terms of gas.

I LOVE the Playtex Ventaire. They are a little on the expensive side and the assembly is a pain in the butt, but they work wonderful. They allow air to flow into the bottle (but do not leak) so there are no bubbles and no nipple collapase. we still use them at 9 months old.

Playtex is by far the best! Playtex has the widest variety of nipples of any disposable bottle system, offering a variety of shapes, flow rates, and materials to help you select the right nipple for your baby.

Don't get Advent bottles, they leak and the nipples split easily. I bought Playtex ventaire ones with my second and I loved them. They are very easy to clean since the bottom comes right off. Plus, my daughter was never had gas. Good luck!

honestly, avent is a very good bottle designer company. i believe they are british. the good thing about avent, is that when the milk or juice/water, finishes from the bottle, it doesnt let the baby suck in the air that is left when the liquid finishes. and as you might find out later on -good luck- it is not good for a baby to consume air, because they will get cramps and start crying, until the air comes out in the form of gas.

also, when your child grows to the age of toddlers, it is best to use those playtex sippy cups, playtex is good for the toddler ages, and avent is good for the baby ages because it prevents the air to enter the stomaches. and when the child becomes a toddler they know better enough that when their drink is finished they stop drinking!

good luck!
