i dont think rap is music
-there basically talking in a rythmic way
-there is usually no instruments involved and if there are there basic and aren't used much
-rhyming is not music anyone who can speak can rhyme there fore anyone can rap
-if music is about expressing emotions and sending messages and used for fun and enjoyment, then why is rap about pointless stuff like grinding with women and having a lot of money and gloating about it?
-Rap can create mixed views and can cause violence and arguements
-a lot of rap has swearing and that shows a weak vocabulary and if anyone needs to swear to say that there angry or something thats sad
-it's pointless
does anyone agree?
Rappers have no musical talent really and if there is any "good"
rap that is actually not about stupid things please share because we all should know

Rap music is music. You'll hear a lot of artists talking about the same thing, but that's only on the surface of it. If you get into the "underground" category or listen to some of the "old school" stuff, you'll find strong vocab and different topics. Rap doesn't create mixed views, other peoples opinions create mixed views therefore causing violence and arguments. Usually the talk about the money and women is just because the artist probably had a rough childhood and now they got what they wished they could've had back then. There is rap that is not about stupid things. Check out Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Little Brother, Common, etc.

If you only hear the artists like Ying Yang Twins, Lil' Jon, Lil' Scrappy, 50 Cent, or others popular on the radio, that's all you're going to hear, the same stuff over and over again. But if you dig deeper, you'll find the goldmine that other rap fans have found.

It not the words that make music its the music itself. the brums, guitar e.t.c.

Technically it is music.
iam just gonnna go through the points uve made
1.talking in rythmic way: they do the same with pop, rock, e.t.c. eg. jenny from the block, dont be fooled by the rocks i got.
2.Have you accually listening to it b4 e.g. 2Pac-changes
3.speaking, rapping, signing its all not music those are lyrics, try rapping about somthing and you will see how hard it can be.
4.Not all rap, I do agree with a mojority of it is. 2Pac is an excellent if u get a chance listen to: changes, brenda's got a baby, wonder why they call you b*tch,
5.Mixed views to i agree with totally, it can have a massive impact on teenages who start talking walking acting e.t.c like their favourite artist. But in defence every1 has there own mind & are fully responsible for their own actions.
6. i agree there is a bit to much swearing (but u can get clean version of most)

WOW I CAN ANSWER THIS QUESTION IN SO MANY WAYS. BUT I CAN SAY RAP IS LIKE ANY OTHER GENRE OF MUSIC. LOOK AT THE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES THERE IS. SOME PEOPLE WON'T UNDERSTAND CERTAIN KINDS OF MUSIC BECAUSE ITS NOT WHAT THEY WERE RAISED AROUND. I BELIEVE NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC IT IS, ITS ALL ABOUT EXPRESSION. WHETHER ITS SOMETHING YOU'VE BEEN THROUGH OR YOU'RE SPEAKING FOR OTHERS IN THE SITUATION. NOT ALL RAP IS ABOUT GRINDING AND BLINGING. THE ONES THAT DO RAP ABOUT IT MAY NOT HAVE ANYTHING ELSE TO SAY. I DO BELIEVE THEY SHOULD NOT RAP. AND AS FAR AS RAP PROMOTING VIOLENCE, I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THIS WORLD WAS WAY VIOLENT BEFORE RAP WAS CREATED. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A BAND PLAYING FOR IT TO BE MUSIC. ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVE FORGOTTEN THE TRUE MEANING OF MUSIC BECAUSE ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE OUT TO GET PAID NOW

The minimum standard for music is at least a melody and a tempo. Harmony lends a very pleasant counterpoint and is what makes music such a universal language. RAP is either Really Awful Poetry, or Really Awesome Poetry, depending on how you feel about it. It's just not music without a melody.

rap is music but don't get me wrong, it's very BAD music. it doesn't promote any GOOD values and rappers are just a channel to today's youth. a channel that encourages corruption, violence, sex, drug use. people say that it's not true, but it's all about the subliminal messages. how you feel once you listened to a rap song. You feel like you want to beat some one up? You feel like you wanna rape someone? You feel like you want to get high? That sort of thing. rock music is just the same way. Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Doom Metal...the hidden messages are just so scary.

Unfortunately, the best hip hop (rap) music is not played on the radio. If you are interested in quality, conscious hip hop music, check out artists like Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def.

BTW, any words that are over a beat can be considered music. It is relative. Your analysis seems to be biased.

Do you consider Alternative or heavy metal music? Which I consider comparable to hip hop. You may not like the content but that doesn't mean it is not music.

Rap is not music. All they are doing is talking, trying to rhyme, and sounding like braindead fags. They don't even play music, they use pre recorded sounds and just edit them to fit their "rhymes". They'll even take good songs like Crazy Train and use the music to try and rap to. There is no good rap. Even if they aren't rapping about whores and drugs, they are still rapping. We are talking about whether or not it is music or not. It isn't. By definition, rap is retards attempting poetry, not music.

No matter who the crapper it is, most have the same old beat just different words, no real singing talent what so ever. Some day, and not soon enough, crap (sounds like rap) will be like disco, no more. And the world would be a MUCH BETTER PLACE.
