I recently read that CD's don't work very long after burning them. What is the life span of a Memorex CD-R after it has been burned?

CD's will technically last forever, I have archived CD's from 8 years ago.

The thing about older CD's is that after a while, you can start to see what looks like little bubble sized spots beginning to form (literally inside the CD on the shiny media coating). When those occurs, then data at the exact point is lost.

I keep them in a CD book deal, but I think its just natural results of oxygen (same way oxygen causes rust on iron). So if you really want to keep them a long time, keep them out of sunlight and zip lock them to keep air from getting to it. That method could very well outlast your lifetime. if you don't keep them air tight, then I'd say about 5-8 years, you should start inspecting them again. You could copy the disc every 5 years or so to make sure the metal deterioration (thats they shiny stuff) doesn't permanently damage them.

But of course, scratches are the worst enemy to CD's. I make extra CD, of a master CD, when I use it frequently. I use the copy and don't worry about it. But my master CD stays in a case and only comes out in emergenices and gets put back immediately.
