history repeats itself empires rise and fall we have been at the top for too long bush is setting up the fall and unfortunately its during my lifetime, hang on its gonna be a scary ride!!

People don't think and are typically selfish. They also don't want to learn from history as they think that they know better, plus they would not understand it anyhow. There also the problem of short term vs. long term thinking.
Many people want Mommy Government to take care of them. I have heard that democracies fail when people realize that they can vote themselves stuff. Of course, the USA is not a democracy.
If you want a good question, see how many people can get the answer to the question what rights does the Bill of Rights give us? If they can't understand that, how do you expect them to get anything else?

Many people are just lazy and do not care about politics or government. Maybe if they would put history and social studies back in the public schools we'd would get more thinking people.
