1. If it is Microsoft problem try
Start/programs/Acessories/
System Tools/System restore.
Go back to a date , in which
you think computer was Okay.
2. For IE ,
delete other programs
in Task bar, other than AntiVirus/Firewall
( Norton/Zone Alarm/Kerio etc)
.This will help if you get an Icon ( green square)
CPU usage 100%.
3.Clear old data try Ccleaner from
www.ccleaner.com.

I'd recommend getting rid of Internet Explorer entirely, and download Mozilla's Firefox. More and better features, easy conversion from IE, more security, the whole bit.
As to why IE closes unexpectedly, I couldn't say, but you might try uninstalling it and using your windows CD to reinstall.
