Just plug in a USB 2 compliant device. Dont worry IT WILL TELL YOU. Most USB 2 stuff will run on 1.1 albeit slower

This isn't a sure file way, but usually it works.

Right click My Computer, choose Properties. Then click Hardware Tab and then Device Manager button.

Scroll down to bottom where it says Universal Serial Bus controller. Expand the menu by clickin the + plus sign.

If you see the word "Enhanced" somewhere in there, then its USB 2.0, if not, then its 1.1 (ie might say: Intel 8280 1EB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller).

Sometimes it will say USB2, just like I typed above, but sometimes not. As long as you see Enhanced, then it likely has 2.0

I wouldn't be too pressed about it. v1.1 transfers at 12Mbps (thats like having 3 Road runner cable ISP accounts rolled into one) and 2.0 is 480Mbps. By seriously, I don't think anything is capable of transfering at the full rate?? Maybe, I dunno.

I have a mp3 player that has USB 2.0 and it takes a solid 3-5 seconds per song (5Mb ea) to transfer each song. Seriously, if it were transfering at the full 480 Mbps then it should transfer that in like .25 seconds.

USB 2.0 is backwards compatible meaning it will work with a 1.1 device attached. Like wise a 2.0 device on a USB 1.1 computer will work just fine, but at the 1.1 speeds.

Now , here is your answer that you wanted:

Right click on My Computer

Left Click on Properties

Left Click on Hardware tab

Left click on Device Manager ( rectangular box)

Look down and Left click on Universal Serial Bus Controller

Now look for Enhanced USB Host Controller

If it has 2.0 it will show you........or whatever you have

1.1 = slower 12 mgps and 2.0 = 40 times faster

dont worry, you always can use the hardware.

if you plug it into your pc and you dont get a message about slow USB connection then you have 2.0.
