good question. i will never know for sure what i will do until it happens............but that is extremeley unlikely. however, i would run for it. you are right if i play dead, he will eat me! NO WAY!

I wouldnt be in a situation that a bear was coming at me, i dont go in the woods. but, I would most likely play dead

Do my best to whistle as loud and shrill as I can and hope it scares him off. I've seen bears bat stuff around, and I'd rather not play dead and hope for the best after witnessing that. Other than that, it's stand and fight.

I DID run into a bear in Canada. I was walking in the woods and I saw him/her about 30 feet from me. He raised up on his hind legs. I threw my back-pack which had food in it and slowly backed up without making any sudden movements.
The bear grabbed the pack and I ran.
I still remember those scary little beady eyes!

I have studied survival skills with a native taught man, and he said ALWAYS fight like hell. =) If you can get away, do that of course.. But if it comes to a confrontation, make yourself really big, and go for the nose. =)
But bears wont attack you unless you are on their turf, and 99% of the time give warning signs first.

I'd run if there's a chance to escape.
if not. then I'd rather fight back than play dead..
But, if I'm certain "fighting back" would definetely kill me, I'll play dead !
