It is highly unlikely that your baby has the flu. You should continue to offer breastmilk or formula (preferably breastmilk), no other liquids.

A one month baby should not take medications or herbs -except under the supervision of a doctor.

You can use saline drops to gently cleanse the nose. Vaseline around the nostrils will loosen dried snot and help prevent build up.

A humidifier or taking the baby into a steamy bathroom will help loosen phlegm and make breathing easier.

Laying the baby on their tummy (just for a few minutes) will help snot drain as well. Keep the baby warm.

"Dispelling Flu Shot Myths
What is the Flu?
The flu is something that we get only a few times in a lifetime. It is not an illness that affects the gastro intestinal tract, and does not cause stomach upset or nausea.
The so called stomach flu is not caused by influenza!

The influenza virus is characterized by the following symptoms:

sudden high fever (38° to 40° C)
headache
loss of appetite
severe muscle aches and pain
extreme fatigue and weakness
chills
dry cough
sweating
and sometimes: sore throat, runny nose, nasal congestion and sneezing. "

"Myth: The Canadian Health Network’s information page titled “Getting serious about the Flu” states that “Influenza (or flu) is a common respiratory illness affecting millions of Canadians each year.”6

Truth: According to the Canada Communicable Disease Report, the actual number of confirmed cases of influenza for 2001 – 2002 flu season was 6258, that means a whopping 0.02% of the Canadian population actually contracted influenza in 2001-2002.7 For the 2003-2004 year it was 11,435 cases of influenza, that’s 3.6 % of the population actual contracted influenza in 2003-20048, a far cry from millions."

NOTHING! Only if your baby has a high fever should you even give them Tylenol, nothing else! Giving an infant that age cold medication has been linked to SIDS!!!!!!!! It effects the nervous system. This is a very dangerous thing to do. Use a humidifier, in the room. Keep the baby propped up if they are congested, car seat, swing. If it is the flu, take the baby to the Dr., as soon as you can get an appointment. If your baby spikes a high fever go to the ER, this could trigger febrile seizures. I hope your baby is well soon, I know this is scary, I have 5! God Bless

Put a call into your pediatrician right away. Tell him/her what your baby's temperature is and if she's been vomiting, wetting her diapers and if she's been feeding. It's important that you do not take this lightly, the flu is much more risky in a infant then later in life. If you cannot get in touch with your pediatrician then take her to the ER. If she has a high temperature you need to have her seen by a professional.

If a baby that young is sick with flu-like symptms I would rush her right to the Dr. If the doctors office is already closed I would even bring her to the ER. Fever over 100.4 can be VERY dangerous for a baby that young, and vomiting can dehydrate her and that is a serious problem. Get her checked out NOW.
Do not attempt to treat this on your own. Infant tylenol and Pedialyte would be good for now to keep her comfortable while you wait to be seen, but please go see a doctor tonight!

Nothing. If you can't wait until tomorrow to take her to the doctor, take her to the ER tonight.

I just saw on the Today show last week that you shouldn't give your infant cold medicine because there are so many things in it that many infants are having a reaction to, and actually dying.

Be careful and smart, when it comes to your wee one!

Take her to the pediatrician or emergency, if you don't have a doctor for her. Don't rely on answers given in here. She's the most important creature you are responsible for.

pedialyte....but if her fever goes to high take her to theEergency room. Babies really risk dehydration a lot faster than adults.
Best of luck!
