A previous owner before me. How can I safely erase all of their junk to make more spawce?

KILLDISK.com, wipe the hard drive and reformat.

Never format unless you have an original (bootable) Operating system and the key code required when installing it. You would also need the drivers for all devices (network card, video, chipset, sound, etc) if formating.

If you have the original OS & driver installation disk, reinstall everything.
