This should be interesting

Yes this is going to be interesting with all the die hard liberals on Yahoo.

I am surprised honestly that more have not made their way here yet.

For what it is worth I believe in the Death Penalty and I am against Abortion.

One life is innocent and one has been convicted by a Jury of his/her peers or a Judge.

But I really want to see how everyone explains their views on this, it should be quite educational for my Daughter as well as me.

I think it is a mistake to think of these issues as left versus right. I think you will find lots of people who oppose the death penalty and are pro life. Treating this topic as one of left vs right will not lead to a useful dialogue or to learning about the issue.

It is interesting things here is that more and more people oppose the death penalty because they believe it is an ineffective way of keeping us safe. They are coming to this position for practical, rather than for moral or ideological reasons. I hope you will take the time to look at some hard facts.

Here are some of the facts about the death penalty that conservatives and liberals alike are paying attention to-

It is not a deterrent- states with the death penalty have higher homicide rates than states that do not. People who commit murder do not think they will be caught, let alone punished, that is, if they think at all.

The death penalty costs much more than life sentences. A great deal of the extra cost comes before conviction. There is an unmet need for more well funded victims’ assistance programs. (In my opinion, that is where we should spend the extra money.)

Life without parole is on the books in more and more states. It means what it says. t is no picnic to be locked up in a tiny cell for 23 of 24 hours a day.

Over 120 people have been released from death row with evidence of their innocence. n the overwhelming number of these cases, the evidence was not DNA. DNA is not a miracle cure for wrongful convictions. The exonerees had spent many years on death row before being found innocent. Speeding up the process would guarantee the execution of an innocent person. It is human nature to make mistakes.

Death sentences can be very hard on victims’ families. The process takes a long time and they are forced to relive their ordeal over and over again, in courts and in the media. Some murder victims’ family members have said that although they support the death penalty in theory, they do not want to see it in the case of their murdered loved one because of how the process affects families like theirs. Life without parole is swift and sure and rarely results in appeals.

Last of all, opposing the death penalty does not mean you excuse or coddle criminals who commit brutal and depraved acts. They must be punished severely. But we need to use common sense based on the facts, not to focus on revenge which accomplishes nothing.

A fully formed human being with family and friends, versus an unwanted fetus unable to live outside its mother.
Those that condone the death penalty, are murderers of at least those that were sentenced to death even though innocent (which happens all too often!).
Justice would be for those who are for the death penalty, to die instead of those innocently convicted. Put yourself into the position of an innocently accused, and convicted person. Do you know what empathy is? Probably not.
The death penalty makes Americans barbarians.

That would actually depend on your moral and religious beliefs. My opinion is this:
The death penalty is getting rid of the plagues of society. The murderers, terrorists, and the other people that do not deserve to live anymore.
An abortion is a medical procedure used to abort what will grow into a living child. Some consider it to not be a living thing until a certain point...which means they are killing more of an organism than an actual person.

Death penalty- Someone does something aware of the Consequences. When you murder someone, you KNOW this is a possibility.

Abortion- It IS murder! The baby has no say, no chance.

Now here's my question...Why can a woman choose(and the doctor actually follow through) to KILL an unborn baby, yet...if they kill another adult- they get life in prison or the death penalty? Answer me that. Who are people to play God?

And don't say the 'baby isn't alive' because it is. If it wasn't, it wouldn't have blood in it's veins and a heart beat. Are YOU alive?

This issue pisses me off, more than anything.

(Sorry, I know you- or anyone else so far- hasn't said anything about abortion...I just can't stand it! I'm a woman who doesn't have kids yet, and I STILL can't understand how one could do this!!!!)

on the one hand you have someone who did something really bad and deserves to die for it. This person is also aware and can feel his death.
Abortion is just getting rid of a fetus. I understand the point of view that it is immoral and it is like killing a person. however, if a woman wants to get an abortion it means that: a) she is not ready for a baby, her boyfriend/husband or whatever is not ready for a baby either. b) the woman could be a girl in highschool and does not want to ruin -- 1- her life
2- her boyfriends life
3- the unborn baby's life.
it just depends the way you look at it i guess...

Generally, an abortion is not legal to perform on a "viable" entity. No society, as far as I am aware, tolerates termination of 8 1/2 month old foetuses...

Majority of the time (I understand there is exceptions) someone who receives the death penalty has committed a crime...therefore they believe a eye for a eye.

Abortion the only thing that they can lay claim to is it is legal.

But in my opinion it all comes down to morals....If your not ready to be condemned to die don't commit the crime.....but a child has no say and has done no wrong....unfortunately he/she (the child) was conceived by worthless and thoughtless parents who will meet there judgment in the end!

The death penalty is usually (hopefully) administered to a vile, disgusting person who has taken another innocent human life, usually during the commision of a crime. The world usually is a better place afterwards.
Abortion is the murder of a innocent child who is usually the victim of irresponsible parents, as most abortions are for convienience rather than rape or medical reasons as propaganda would have you believe.

Oh yeah, this should be REALLY interesting. Good luck!!

To me they are both murder. The only difference is one is completely innocent and the other has commited some horrible crime against other innocents.

But to me to take a life is to take a life no matter the circumstance.

EVEN SCHOOLED DOCTORS & ABORTIONIST ACKNOWLEDGE THAT HUMAN LIFE BEGINS AT CONCEPTION..... BUT SOME OF US ENJOY DECIEVING OTHERS BEING SATANIC LEANING, AT LEAST IN THOUGHT, BECAUSE THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG IN THE MIND OF A LIBERAL.....ANYTHING GOES AS LONG AS IT FURTHERS THE LIBERAL CAUSE......FEELINGS REIGN SUPREME ABOVE ALL LAW OR CODE OF ETHICS.....FEELINGS WITHOUT RESPONSIBILITY IS PARAMONT FOR LIBERAL CONTROL THEREFORE THERE IS NO SIN ----WHATEVER MAKES YOU FEEL RIGHT IS OKAY---GUARANTEES CONTINUED ACCEPTANCE OF THE LIBERAL AGENDA.....IN THE CASE OF ABORTION AFTER 10 OR 20 YRS. THE BIG LIE COMES HOME TO ROOST & IT BOILS DOWN TO MEN WANTING SEXUAL GRATIFICATION WITHOUT ANY RESPONSIBILITY.....WE HAVE TO GET RID OF THIS BEFORE IT BECOMES A BABY---LIE NUMBER 1-----IT ALREADY IS A BABY---WHY ELSE WOULD YOU WANT TO KILL IT ??? IF YOU KILL IT YOU GET SEX WITH NO RESPONSIBILTY.....HOW CONVENIENT---HOW WONDERFUL----HOW BLESSED........IN THE CASE OF A CRIMINAL-----A BABY IS NOT A CRIMINAL..................
