Six months to a year is enough to pass on all the nutrients and goodness beneficial to your baby. Anything after that is up to you....what you have to remember is the longer you breastfeed after that, the harder it'll be for your baby to get off the breast, as in most cases, it'll become a comfort and habit according to your baby, rather than food!

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends nursing for AT LEAST one year and then after that if mom and baby wants to do so. They state that there are no negative effects to nursing into the third year and even beyond.

The World Health Organization recommends nursing at least 2 years.
