The magneic poles have flipped before, and doubtless will again. The primary impact this will have on daily life is that compasses will point the wrong way.

The poles have flipped before. No one can predict a date when they will again. They have been wandering widely, which may mean a reversal is coming, or may not. Supposedly we are "past due" by a huge margin of time for a pole shift, but again, we're talking geological time, which is so vastly different from human time it's pretty much beyond our comprehension.
A book that came out about 10 years ago predicted the pole shift would happen on 05-05-2000 when all the planets were in a line behind the sun directly opposite earth. Nothing happened. (Still a cool book to read, if you can find it--the date is part of the title, can't remember the rest).
The whole 2012 thing has nothing to do with pole shifts or even the end of the world. Literally it's the rolling over of the Mayan Long Count from 12 Baktuns to 13 Baktuns (on 12-21-2012) and spiritually it's the birth of a new sun, a new energetic world age.

The date of the Mayan calender is 12-21-12. It is the day that the planets are in alignment as well as the day of the winter solstice.
It turns out that the mayans had quite a library. Of the 1000's of books that were written, only 4 were saved from destruction. In one of these books, the prediction of the end of the world was found. Perhaps the Mayans had other calenders that were written in other books that extended past this date.
When you study Mayan culture, you see that they predicted that the world would end many times.
As far as magnetic drift goes, the magnetic field shifts almost constantly and one has to compensate for it based on your geographical location.

i think of the two some thing interior the government is going to blow up (for loss of greater advantageous words) or that's honestly not something, like Y2K and that's merely a distraction from what's relatively occurring for the subsequent 2 years. Or that's the two. I even have study that the Mayans calendar merely ENDS on that date, and that they did not are waiting for a fashion that's going to end. From different cultures/civilizations, the historic previous channel and different media/franchise orgs, they have got here up with all of this and use their scientist to 'returned them up' yet i rather have faith that's purely a significant distraction, and to work out how we are able to react to their finding out propaganda. Planets aligning and all that sht i'm merely not stressful approximately, i think of that truly relies upon on the place you stand with our scientist and training given by the media (internet secure)..... So. some thing would happen yet I fantastically doubt that's the top of the international, that's purely a finding out product that has been horribly bought to the prevalent public. God will come like a theif interior the night, and that would be the top of the international, not this buttered up tale.

The Mayans were off by a couple centuries. Their world has already ended.

ignoring that lots of people have predicted doomsdays before, and they've all been wrong...
during the time period of poles reversing (and shortly prior, because the magnetic field weakens before it flips), earth is no longer shielded from cosmic electro-magnetic radiation. lots of living beings, including our ancestors have apparently survived this. the biggest problem will be issues with cell phones, power lines, and things of that nature (they won't work due to interference).

It's a gradual "flipping" of the poles. Nothing would happen quickly. :)
