For 16 years, I've been working as a Dept. Manager for a supermarket, and for 11 years I've been leaving work at 12 PM on Fridays, due to a personal matter. Last July, I was transferred to a different store, where the store manager told me that he does not want me to, and will not let me leave early on Fridays anymore. He said that I am a full time employee, and need to work anytime the business needs me. (Oh. did I mentioned I work every Saturday, Sundays, and holidays whatever the hours they schedule?)

As an immediate reaction I decided that I would look for another job, and that I would be calling in everytime they scheduled me on Friday afternoons. Is it reasonable?

Am I entitled to choose which day of the week I want off? Can Shaw's (Ooops, I named it, didn't I?) write me up for not wanting to work Friday PMs? If they write me up, is it Ok if don't sign the warning form? Do I have arguments to sue the company in case they fire me?

sounds like you don't have a union.
yes they can require you to work any schedule they want.
you have no recourse. if they schedule you and you don't
come in they can fire you. they are slitting their own throat
but there is little you can do to help them now.
i'm sure another store will be happy to have you and
you can agree on your schedule in advance as a condition
of the job. it will be hard to get it in writing.

no union . ooops, u can be in pretty hot water. u are manager, and if that entails (in your job discription) them asking u to work gosh awful hours, and u cant..
then u may have to quit, but I wouldnt advise it, unless u have something another job already lined up.
its not pretty looking for another job, when u get fired.
the only upside of getting fired is that u can get unemployment for 6 months..

there is nowhere n writing it says you have to sign the warning. i dont know about the laws in your state but the state i live in which is indiana the board of labor told me they dont have to have a reason to fire you. they can do it for any reason. it may be different in your state.i would check it out. just doesnt seem fair to me. good luck to you

it sucks but they do have the right to write you up its company policy to tell you what days to have off and you dont have to siign the warning or write up but it still counts against you
