You don't have to dry clean it...

Dry cleaning won't really make that smell come out. Sooner or later, it'll come back. Dry cleaning is just that: they clean it dry with chemicals. As a matter of fact, lots of people have respiratory problems because of these chemicals.

You can go to your nearest laundramat (and I do this ALL the time... at home and in my business). Use the king size washing machine (since it's a king you need to clean... otherwise, you could use your own machine at home) and wash your duvet on the whites cycle. Yes. You heard me correctly: WASH YOUR DOWN DUVET. The water should be hot (this will kill the dust mites in the feathers). And use soap. You can also use Fleecy or any other fabric softener. You shouldn't worry about washing down feathers, as this won't damage them... ever heard of a duck having something wrong with his feathers 'cause he got 'em wet???

What you do need to be aware of is that if you DRY the feathers on too hot a cycle, then you'll have problems. So once you've washed your duvet, either put it on the clothesline to dry and then fluff it in the dryer, or put it directly in the dryer (this is BY FAR the best and most cost effective solution). Just make absolutely certain that the heat is on LOW and you have COMPLETELY dryed and fluffed it... Your duvet will feel and look brand new! The way to tell if the feathers are completely dry is that there won't be anymore more clumps of feathers in the duvet. To make certain that the feathers dry the easiest and the fluffiest, throw 3 tennis balls in the dryer with the duvet.

Shake your duvet out really well before putting it back in it's duvet cover and voilà! Brand new clean-smelling duvet!

Sleep well!

The smell is actually from the feathers in the comforter. I worked at linens and things (like bed bath and beyond) and learned quite a few things there.spray it with fabreeze or something and see if that helps it any. our get a potpourri satchel and put it inside the duvet cover with it and put the comforter in a sealed bag if you still have the one it came in, for about a night and take it out in the morning and see if its any better.

wash it at your local laundry mat . If you can bleach it with chlorine bleach then do . If not go get the Clorox 2 . If the color is not to dark wash in hot water so this kills the Oder and sanitizers it . I would wash in cold water first with soap then do another cycle just with hot water then dry in there tumble dryers for large items like this . My husband stinks up our bed so much that i wash my bedding and pillows once an month and the Oder's come right out .

Call several dry cleaners in your area and ask.
