Nail-biting (onychophagia) is a common stress-relieving habit. People may bite their nails in times of stress or excitement, or in times of boredom or inactivity. It can also be a learned behavior from family members. Nail-biting is the most common of the typical nervous. People might bite their nails without realizing it. People might be involved in another activity, such as reading, watching television, or talking on the phone, and bite your nails without thinking about it.
Nail-biting includes biting the cuticle and soft tissue surrounding the nail as well as biting the nail itself.

it could be boredom stress or just a nasty habit, like some people continually crack their fingers, ask him if he's a mature 14 year old what he thinks about girls who have no nails, because it is a bit ugly, and my dad used to say to me that even if you don't have much money and you arn't wearing super posh clothes, that another person will tell your character by checking if your nails and teeth are in good shape, your clean, and your shoes are polished, you have at least got some self esteem. if you go to the chemist you can buy some paint on stuff that tastes awful if you lick them. maybe your daughter could offer him a small reward if he stops it for a whole month! I was reading the newspaper the other day, and a boys dad bet him that he couldn't stay off chocolate for a whole year, and that if he did he could have a gift, and he also got sponsors from his family to join in and he had the willpower to do it as a new years resolution- choco habit was solved.... just a thought!

its just a habit and a very difficult one to break away from,,
i am 24 and still bite mine all the way down to nothing!! half the time i dont even realise im doing it,, i have tried to spot many a time, but they always end up back in my mouth,,
you can get stuff to put on your nails which makes them taste bad, so hopefully over time you will stop the hand to mouth movement, but this has never worked for me.. i just suck it off my nails and continue biting,,
its a harmless habit really, and one which is not too concerning,, after all he could be in the habit of smoking or drinking instead!!
some people grow out of it as they reach adult hood,, others like me take a little longer

I think nail-biting is one of the most common habits.
Unless its causing some severe problems, why worry about it.
When I was young I used to suck on my knuckles in class. Just a habit, while I was reading or thinking. They'd get chapped and eventually bleed and get scabby. Pretty nasty.
But then I just stopped doing it. Not that I even tried to stop. One day I just realized that I hadn't been doing it in years.

Are u serious...i was expecting some huge dilemma when i first saw your question...i used to bite my nails, my daughter bites hers too..I know lots of people whom bite their nails....
I don't think there have to be reasons why someone would bite their nails, hereditary plays a huge factor, its just a bad habit...Some people may bite their nails if they are anxious or worried... I used to bite mine when i didn't know i was doing it, watching Tv mainly..I don't know how i came to stop biting them but i don't now..perhaps i just grew out of the habit, not sure...

I started biting my nails when I was 2, I am thirty and I still bite my nails. The only thing that would cure it in me is hypnosis.

in case you do not take care of the mendacity and stealing now, the police will take care of him by the penal equipment. with the intention to treatment him of this habit you want to take drastic measures because what you're doing now's not operating with him. contact your close by police branch and ask even if or not they have an outreach software for problem young ones, alongside such as your son who's stealing. also, you may favor to get him into your close by massive Brothers massive Sisters software. BBBS will tournament him up with a huge Brother. often times, childrens favor someone except the dad and mom to search for suggestion from from and help get them on the right direction. i might want to offer BBBS a attempt first. basically let them understand what is going on such as your son and he will be paired with the right massive Brother who can help him.
