well for one...it showed the french that they were capable of defeating the british...it was the turning point of the war, the french became allies with the colonies after they saw this.

I know one reason is that was the battle after which France decided to help out the colonists in their cause. If they had lost the battle, France probably would've decided it was too much of a risk to help such losers, and then the colonists would not have gotten any help.
