No, I don't think he will. Americans love their own sports and that is never going to change even with Beckham (who I doubt many of them even know other than he happens to be the husband of a has-been singer). But then, considering he's being paid a million pounds a week, I don't think he'll care much either way.

Everyone won't watch it. But thats universal in all sports. I know a lot of people who refuse to watch Baseball...BASEBALL! This was supported by the lowest viewership of the World Series this year. If America's pastime can struggle to get viewers, soccer definitely will.

However, I think soccer has a high potential. Despite what most old-school conservative Americans say, there are tons of American families who grew up playing AYSO or other youth soccer leagues. I am in my early 20s and I see most of my friends accepting this deal as a chance for us to enjoy soccer at home, not abroad. We all played while we were young, in different leagues, and we have been watching him as well as many notable others playing abroad. This acceptance of soccer in America is seen through the high-interest recorded during the World Cup (which took place in the morning hours in America) as well as the recent development of the Fox Soccer Channel and MLS and UEFA on ABC and ESPN.

Its growing. And as the traditionalist soccer-haters die off with time, the new, younger group of Americans will see the sport as the world has seen it: beautiful.

I recommend everyone to see a great documentary on the New York Cosmos and the NASL called "Once in a Lifetime." It shows how soccer almost blew up in this country (and actually did in many places [especially New York City]). Ironically, the cause of NASL's failure was overexpansion of capitalism that defines America. Pele almost did it...now people look towards Beckham.

It relatively does no longer matter to human beings if he have been the main suitable participant ever to play the recreation and nonetheless in his top, we don't safeguard soccer the way Europeans and S. human beings do. I doubt his addition to the Galaxy group will substitute that. right here in Columbus they outfitted the country's first (if no longer purely) soccer-specific stadium a number of years in the past and pastime interior the sport continues to be susceptible. tens of millions of babies who presently take exhilaration in the sport could pique the pastime sometime interior the destiny yet between soccer (american), baseball, basketball, and vehicle racing, there presently are not adequate followers to flow around.

Soccer...USA....No way. Most Americans do not know who he is and really do not care.
Most of the interest in soccer in the U.S. is from parents of kids playing it in school. American children lose interest because they are conditioned to equate everything with money and the BIG money is in baseball, football, basketball and hockey.

I am one American that will not watch soccer. I don't care if Jesus Lord straps on the shin guards, I will not watch. That move will fail, mark my words. How can you pay one guy more than the entire rest of the league combined? They should have got Beckham, Ronaldinho, KaKa, Ronaldo, and Materazzi, and Rooney, then I might watch.
