You are about a 40 minute drive from an excellent dance school in Grand Rapids: the School of the Grand Rapids Ballet Company.

If that school is too far from you, you should certainly be able to find a better studio than one that only provides one class per week at your level.

I hope you already know that you can't properly learn how to dance (and hope to become a professional) by watching dvds. You need well-qualified teachers to challenge you and give you corrections. The best teachers are those who have danced professionally themselves.

Ask your folks to find a better studio for you. If they are unable to drive you further to a better place, look into the possibility of attending Interlochen Arts Academy for high school.

As their web site points out, "No student or family should be discouraged from applying to Interlochen Arts Academy because of lack of funds" because "70% of the Academy student body receives financial aid."

At least have your folks look at the Interlochen web site. Perhaps after they see the boarding student tuition of over $35,000, they might be more willing to find you a better studio closer to home.

if you are really serious that you want to be a dancer, I would suggest getting some dance dvd's or a private instructor. keep in mind that the shelf life of a dancer is only a few years and that if you get injured you could have to stop dancing forever and it is really difficult to break into the professional world of dancing.I would caution you to only try to be a professional performer if you cannot see yourself doing anything else.Good Luck!(Trust me I know from experience.)

You can buy some of the dance dvd to practice. If you are really serious about dancing, try that. That will get you into learning new dance moves.
