My 19 Month old baby girl drank a small amount of soap today. She grabbed the cup of the laundry soap after I just finished putting laundry in the washer so there was some soap residue that dripped down the cup, guess 2tbs or more. I call Posion Controll and they said she would be fine but they didnt ask what kind of soap she drank...so Now Im worrying..wich I tend to worry to much...she is getting a small rash on her cheeks...but no where else..and she is acting normal. I just wondering if anyone else has experanced this and could posion controll be wrong?? It was ALL FREE AND CLEAR Laudry Soap. I' going to call Poison control again for my own peace of mind.

No but my son did get a hold of the dish soap(I guess it looked like a baby bottle) and I called the hospital and they told me that it would be alright and that he might have diarrhea for a couple of days. It's not going to hurt anything to call the poison control center and they can tell you if you should be worried or not.

Poison Control is not wrong. They know what is fatal and what is not. Your baby could be a bit sick from it, but it is doubtful that she has been seriously harmed. Still, you should take her to your doctor just to make sure, or call the office anyway. She has probably got a bad taste in her mouth and a bit of an upset tummy, but I also hope you read the label to be able to tell anyone what was in the soap. Most soap eating is not serious; but everyone is different, and you should have her checked out to be sure.

Make sure you have the detergent put up high on a shelf from now on!

My 5 year old has a disorder called PICA also known as Cornstarch Disease. It is an illness in which she craves things such as soap, lotion, comet, rocks, sand etc... We have made sure to keep her away from such things but a few times she managed to get it by us. She has been doing this since she was 6-7 months old. We have to live in a house with little to no carpet because she will eat it. It is an awful illness to have and very scary for her Mommy. Just wanted to throw that out to you in case you notice this in your child, if you do look up the facts and let your doctor know, there is no cure and most doctors have never even heard of it so I just thought this could be helpful in the future, although I will pray for you and your little one that this is not the case....Good luck

It is good that you're calling poison control again. Tell them what kind it was and the kind of reaction she is having. Since she is not acting sick, then she IS probably fine.

Be sure to keep her away from detergent from now on. :-)

yes I would call again . Other then what they tell you to od . I would just let her drink tons of water to flush out her system. That and apple juice. she might just become sick to her stomach .
