the appendix is in the right lower quadrant (lower abdomen). Before we had preservatives and refrigeration, it was used to filter all the poisons that we put in our body. Now, it is good for nothing other than taking up room, just sits there. You don't need it removed, ever, unless it gets infected. You will know that by right sided pain and fever. If you don't get it removed when it is infected, it can rupture, and fill your body with poisons of it's own. So, generally speaking, you don't need it removed unless it gets infected. If it does not get infected, just play like it's not there and go on about your life.

The appendix is a small, worm-like extension at the beginning of the large intestine. Sometimes it becomes infected (often due to being blocked by hard stool), and swells. If it is not removed, it well swell until it bursts. When the appendix bursts, bacteria spreads throughout the lining of the intestines: this is known as "peritonitis," and can be fatal. The appendix is usually located in the lower right quadrant of the abdomen. To estimate where it is, imagine a line from your right hip bone to your belly button. The appendix is located about 2/3 of the way down this line, closer to the hip bone.

The appendix is on the lower right hand corner of you abdomen, hanging off the side of your large intestine. It is removed from some people because fecal matter (poop) goes into it. Because of its size (very small) it hurts when it gets filled up (swollen).

You dont need it removed unless its infected.
Its a small pouch at the end of the large intestine that is useless to our systems.
Sometimes it gets infected and can burst and cause internal bleeding, in those cases it has to be removed.

Its an organ that has no purpose, probably we evolved enough not to need it and its just a useless appendage. We only remove it when it becomes enflamed and causes problems.
