Well... some things are just part of life like for example: life, death, illness, old age, etc. Yet, one should take it personal when things happen in their lives and take advantage of the good things about what is happening. To answer your question... I think that things happen for a reason but some things are just meant to happen like the things explained above. No one is immune to a broken heart or shattered life.... we all try to survive the best way we can even though that way isn't the best.

Atheist point of view - in an infinite universe, the odds of things happening is very small, but they do happen. there's no reason or "big plan"
Somewhat religious point of view - there is a grand plan and we all play a role. Whether a higher power points us in a certain direction or "opens a door" or lays down the path, things happen for a reason.
Personally, i think so. i believe in a cosmic awareness or divinty, whatever you want to call it. Events sometimes seem too contrived to be left up to chance happenings. but i believe that whatever it is, it opens a door of opportunity and whether we step through the door or not is up to us.

yes, definately
i always seem to have that feeling. i dont remember each specific example, but so many times in my life something crappy has happened,.....and i just kinda agonized think...why...why did this have to happen to me....and then hours, days, weeks, or even years later, it all starts to make sense. it HAD TO happen that way.
one example i can think of: so as a kid i had eaten kiwis. i remembered liking them. then i just stopped eating them, and i always just had this desire to try one again....but never really had the will or opportunity. then a couple of months ago, my mom (well host mom actually...on exchange) asked me what fruits i wanted to buy, and so i decided on kiwi. i tried it right when we got home...i was just so curious. i cut it in half and started scooping the inside out and eating. like right after the first one, i had a funny feeling in my throat. but i had had a similar feeling whenever i had eaten pineapples, so i figured it was ok. then it just got worse, and finally after the second half, it was really strange and uncomfortable. i walked out of the kitchen without saying a word and went to the bathroom to look in a mirror at my throat. i couldnt see anything cause they dont have good mirrors or lightingn, so i walked back to the kitch. i sat down and quietly said ''i think im allergic to kiwi''. i dont know why i was so calm. i didnt feel all that much fear in the moment (and not that much later....i think i actually tried to convince myself that i was scared more than actually being naturally scared...but thats besides the point). i drank milk. i tried to drink water. it was becoming hard to swallow. then we just decided to had to go to the hospital. well, anyway...i was allergic and i went to the er and everything was ok.
then a week later i was going to a birthday party. and it was pretty far away from the city. and the birthday girl came around asking if i wanted a slice of her cake. i asked what was in it by chance. kiwi. if i had eaten it because i hadnt gone through the above experience, i would be in the company of strangers far away from any hospital, and then what would have happened?
that was something big that happened to me, but plenty of times i just get little reminders that everything happens for a reason....

A bad event could lead to a good event. Imagine if you broke your arm and went to the hospital and 10 years later you met the person you will fall in love with and be with for the rest of your life. If you never broke that arm, the events in your life would have been different and misplaced.
I believe the lord has a plan for us all.

NOOOO! I can't stand it...I REALLY CAN'T...when people say that! They're just looking for an "explanation" that eludes the human brain! IMO, everything is predestined, but only because of causality. None of it actually MEANS anything! There's no grand plan, no "raison d'etre" and so on. If you want those things, you must make them for yourself!

I do and yes there is a reason for it. Though the reason may not be seen when it happens you may live a long while before you can see it.

No. There is no physical law that says that everything has to make sense to human beings. We can only take what happens and try to make sense of it by comparing it with our previous experiences.

yes, you might not see the reasons today, but in the future you will look back and see how everything had to happen in order for the whatever to happen today.
