It has nothing to do with the type of offensive sets or anything racially influenced for that matter. The answer to this question (in Duke's case) is the academic standards. Duke (like most ACC schools), is an outstanding academic institution and generally the minimum standardized test scores for admission are higher and also consider it is a private schoool.

However, that is not to say that Black players cannot cut it academically. A vast majority of the urban public school systems (where most of our Black population is located) are poorly funded, full of teachers that want to get the day over with and are not academically qualified to teach what they teach. So the academic standards being an obstacle for admission to Blacks is not a matter of aptitude or ability, but opportunity and resources. A good example would be one of my students. She has a 3.5 gpa but got a 13 on her ACT and there are thousands of cases just like hers. So clearly its not the kids, its the system.

Besides, there have been years where a majority of the players on Duke's team have been Black. Look at the 2000 roster; Carlos Boozer, Nate James, Jason Williams, Dahntay Jones, Shane Battier, Chris Duhon and three low profile players on the bench. That is 9 out of 16. To further this point, Jason Williams and Shane Battier were academic All-Americans. They both had GPA's above 3.3. Its all contextual and circumstantial. So its really foolish to assert that Black males NEVER fit the profile and someone tell Shawn G that Tim Duncan is from the VIrgin Islands which utilizes the British education system and it is one of the most advanced in the world. Tim Duncan's case does not apply becuase he had a quality education at the primary levels and that is something many Black Americans cannot say. Oh yeah..........and he went to Wake Forest. Not Duke.

There are a few answers to this, such as the style of offense that Duke or the college runs. If it's a fast pace offense, then there usually won't be as many white guys, and with an offense that depends on shooting %, you'll need the best shooters. For some reason the better shooters seem to be white guys, probably because they have to make up for their lack of speed.

Why do some basketball teams seem to have a lot of black guys?....The simple answer is they are going to have the best players (doesn't matter what color they are) from what they have available at that particular school....Must be Duke's majority is white.

This is sad how some people dont see beyond color in 2007. I rather have good players that are white than to have some average black players it is about skill not race. Yes the majority of basketball players are black so what. How would you like itif I asked why did Steve Nash get the MVP when most players black. You see how ignorant that question looks.

Simple duke cherishes players who can shine academically and on the basketball hardword. Unfortunately for many black males they never fit this profile with the exception of a few such as tim duncan.

Because DUKE prizes academics more than giving scholarships to minorities to fill positions on their sports teams.

Because the population has more Americans so don't pull the racist card because for all we know oprah could be racist against white people cuz i don't ever see her give stuff to us. We're all equals in this world.
