The older of these boys had been with the man for four years, without trying to get away and back to his parents. Essentially, the man (Michael Devlin) alienated the child from his parents, yet those in the feminist movement say that this is not possible. They claim that a child cannot be convinced to not want to be with a separated parent, regardless of what methods are used, even threats of physical harm. This would mean that this boy wanted to stay there and not be with his parents. So, is this a case of Parental Alienation Syndrome or a child not wanting to see his parents?

NO! OMG....I don't know where to begin. EVEN IF the child thought, as all teens do at one point or another, that he wanted to get away from his parents, I am sure (100%) that what he went through with that man ---what that sicko did to him---was way worse than being with his family.
No one knows what that man said to get him to stay there, but there are documented cases (stockholm syndrome) where the kidnapped stay for reasons that are beyond our comprehension.
I hope you're not suggesting this "Parental alienation syndrome" as an excuse for what this man did to him?!?
Also....nice slam on the feminist movement.....I'm not a feminist, but then again, I'm not a member of the man/boy love group either.
-----just shaking my head in utter shock and dismay

I doubt PAS is a factor in these types of cases, but anything is possible.
It is more likely related to the Stockholm effect where the victim becomes dependant on the offender.
At a given point during trauma anyone can deliver a message to the victim which is more powerful than any hypnotic suggestion.
Under such circumstances even though the person may know the message is likely to be false, the subconscious ( being a more powerful force) prevents the individual from acting on their needs.
The overpowering influence of a grown adult who holds the power of life and death over an 11yr old child can implant such impacting messages into the child that the full implications may never be measured.
And there remains thousands of folk who because they cannot comprehend this will say it shouldnt be so.
That attitude is of no value to the victim

you do not know the finished tale. perchance the lads had a undesirable existence at homestead. perchance they have been certainly prepared on the guy they have been with. don't get creepy and right now think of all teenagers are molested in the event that they circulate with somebody different than their mothers and dads! might desire to be they have been being molested at homestead and have been chuffed to discover somebody that would desire to a minimum of take care of them. genuine existence isn't purely like the cop shows on television. perchance the lads do not have confidence the law enforcement officers and for this reason do not decide to communicate to them. As between the human beings responded, leave the lads on my own. they don't seem to be stupid. They know the genuine tale and it will paintings out as time passes.

I felt that in that length of time he could have gotten away too. I said the same thing. It is disturbing to know that this man was out and involved in things that left the boy with plenty of chances to get help so why didn't he? And if you ask me his mother sounded a little weird when she was speaking on the news alert.

i don't know but the entire case seems VERY weird to me. for one, why would a man holding a child against his will take him out in the public eye where people can recognize him? even elizabeth smart's captor put a disguise on her, and he's a lunatic. why does shawn have piercings? just seems weird. and YES, shawn's mother seemed extremely loopy, as did the step father with his missing teeth. was i the only one thinking TRAILER PARK, when they were on? i think, as the details to this case unfold, it will blow everyone's mind. truth is ALWAYS stranger than fiction.
