Probably nothing, perhaps increased risk of miscarriage.

NO NO NO NO there is no risk this early if at all, I have had three children and smoked through all of the pregnancies and never had any complications and all three are as healthy as horses. I would not advise anyone to smoke while pregnant it is a bad risk to take. My point being there is no dead lock answer to this question. My oldest is now 18, my second is 5 and my baby is 1 and they have never had ANY type of problems and were above average weight at birth. Still If you can quit then do so, better safe then sorry. I will always regret not being able to quit completely and thank God everyday that it had no ill effect on my babies.

Things have changed so much in the past 20 years or so. Back then people seemed to be doing so many bad things that would potentially harm the baby, and they turend out fine. My mom smoked through all three of her pregnancies and she had 3 healthy babies. It's really good that you quit because on average, the babies are smaller. Personally i think its gross when you see a pregnant woman smoking, so congrats on quitting. The baby should be fine because 1 in 3 women has a miscarriage it doesn't necessiarly mean that it was because you smoked if you happen to have one.

Smoking at any time during pregnancy will cause risks to the fetus, just as drinking and overeating various foodstuffs will, however if you have stopped then you will be reduding the risk again.
Smoking increases the risk of miscarriage as it starves the baby of oxygen. This can lead to suffocation, stillbirth or misformation of organs which in turn can result in a disabled, fatally ill or very ill child.
So long as you stay away from cigarettes, preferably for good as 2nd hand smoke will be as harmful to your child after birth as smoking during pregnancy, then you should be ok.
By the way... congratulations!!

You have quit smoking so early doubt it would have any effects on the feotus, maybe a slightly increased risk of early miscarriage but probably not even enough to worry about. As far as long term effects on feotal growth etc, I would say its unlikely to cause problems cos you have stopped smoking now so you are no longer subjecting the baby to the harmful effects/.

Im not saying that this talk about smoking in pregnancy is rubbish, but 20 years ago when we had our kids no one knew about it ,so judge for yourself,i had 4 kiddies and smoked and drank through all of them, only because we didnt know any better, all my four weighed over 8 pounds, all have been totally healthy and all are extremely clever,so you tell me.

This applies to all my friends children too.

I observed a home delivery and the mother was an occasional smoker.

The Midwife showed the Placenta to her, pointing out the areas where the Placenta had died due to lack of Oxygen due to times of smoking.

While the pregnancy maybe in it's early stages, therefore a possible mis-carriage, just don't smoke.

Good luck xx

It can, but its great that you stopped now. That will help A LOT. You've avoided the worst of the effects by stopping this early. Keep it up. Iam proud of you for actually caring enough about your baby to stop, even without knowing for sure.

You're going to be a good mom.

The most important thing is that you quit smoking. The sooner the better. When you do go to be checked out you should let your doctor know and take it from there, I'm sure you're fine.

Well it is a great thing you quit. You should have kicked that habit long ago, you didn't have to wait until you were pregnant. Just means you are showing maturity and thinking of another human life. Too bad you didn't think like this when you smoked around other people and their children but good job anyhow. Now is better than never. I commend you, and oh, I am sorry you don't know if your pregnant yet-do u?
