I hear ya. I had to take summer school back when I was in High School because I failed Algebra. You could do what I did. Drop out of Algebra go back to pre-Algebra then take summer school and redo Algebra. But thats what I did.

First, you have to sit down and get clear about your problem.

Are you studying, and asking for extra help, and doing the exercises and assignments, and still can't understand?

Or are you trying to catch everything on the fly, and then find that you didn't 'get it' and can't do the homework?

If it is the latter, you need better learning and study skills.

The first thing to do is get to class early and review the notes from the previous class. Then take good notes in class and from your text book, and review them before doing homework. Then review them the next day just before class.

If you are doing that and still find the material moving ahead faster than your learning pace, there is a great Algebra I video course offered by THE TEACHING COMPANY taught by Monica Nagouy. Just Google "The Teaching Company" and "Algebra I" and you'll find it.

Many public libraries have this course on video tape. I purchased it for my son when my wife taught him algebra I in homeschool. It worked great. It is not 'algebra made easy'. It is 'algebra made understandable'. You may have to watch some lectures two or three times.

Tell your teacher about this course. maybe she will ask the school library to order it. It will make her life a lot easier to have a great course on tape that students can turn to.

Since you do not mention something specific to help you with, I am going to first suggest you do an internet search for ONLINE ALGEBRA TUTORIALS. The results will include websites that have tutorials (help on learning the material). Second, write more questions here asking for help with specific material or problems. Third, check about extra help -- after school tutoring, help from friends, etc. Fourth, make sure you make your math class a priority. Give it your full attention and effort. That way you will have the greatest opportunity to succeed.

You need to find someone to tutor you.

I had a whole lot of trouble with algebra. Couldn't get it to save me, and fortunately, across the street from where we lived there was an old lady who was a math teacher. She tutored me for about 3 months and finally, one day out of the blue, I understood it. From then on, I didn't have a bit of trouble.

You're going to want to get some extra help from your math teacher, one on one. Lots of algebra can be explained much clearer in spoken word rather than written. You might also want to pay a visit to your English and typing teachers.
