I think it's called gemology. Some schools in London that offer this major are GIA-London, Gem-A, and London Metropolitan.

One can earn a degree in Gemology at the Gemological Institute of America, London campus, located in Bloomsbury (104 Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3LA) . See their website at www.gialondon.co.uk

You should be looking at Geology courses. I'm sure some London unis will have that as a degree course - but London is VERY expensive to study in! Here are some links to he Royal Geological Society in London, some Lonon Universities that offer the course (or earth science) and also to Edinburgh and Glasgow Universities that have the course too!

Study gemology, I don't know any schools in London, talk to local jewelers and ask around, maybe get ahold of De Beers, they might be able to point you to a good school. Good luck.

I think it's known as gemology, but I have no idea as to where you'd study that.
