can a person request that their ovary be taken out? over the last 5 years i have had 5 operations due to ovarian cysts, i am only having problems on my right ovary, i had my last op in july of last year, they said another cyst had ruptured and that i also had another small one (which they never removed) since july i have been in so much pain (taking tramadol for this) i went for a scan last week and low and behold they said i had a cyst 4cm, i told them that i have had this cyst since july but they have no record of my last op and that i have to go back in may for another scan to see what cyst is doing. i am only 25 and this been going on since i was 19-20. i advised doctors i would like this ovary removed as i have 2 kids and not wanting anymore and she said that they wouldnt do it. i cant take much more of the pain and stress of this not sure what else i can do,,,, could i just clarify i have a dermoid cyst on my left ovary been there for years with no change never had pain on left.

Find a new Dr! I had my ovaries removed after my second child because of some of the same problems. Locally no one wanted to do it because they said I was too young, etc. (26) Went to a gyn oncologist in a larger city and he suggested the removal.

One of the best things I have ever done! My migraines have gone away, no more cramping, pain, etc.

Yes. Your doctor should be listening to you and your requests. You should be fine with only one ovary as it will just do twice the work. It might be that your doctor has a reason for not performing an oopherectomy but if so he should explain it to you. Try asking your gp about it, and if you can see a different gynae.

Well you should be able to request to get your ovary removed since there are problems. I heard that people cant get their ovary's removed if there is no complications. You should talk that over with your Physician. Good Luck
