Ok, so here is what happened. I wanted to download a cool house for my sims2 game. So, I clicked the download button, the option screen came up that said, "Save, Open, etc.." The file I was downloading was ".rar". Well, after I downloaded it, it did not show up in the game. So I went back to my documents, and messed around somehow and changed it so that when I install or download ".rar" files, it opens the "Ea (sims 2) Downloader". (ea downloader is for when you install an expansion pack and it needs to update your old expansion packs) My problem is that I want to change the files so that every time I install or download a ".rar" file, that it doesnt open or connect with "Ea Downloader". Also, yes, I understand that you need a program to break them down, but how do I change the file properties so that it does not open "Ea Downloader"?

Hi there. It's quite simple really. You NEED to have another software (like winrar) to open your file other than that EA downloader. Now navigate to the file, and while holding down the SHIFT key, rightclick on that file.
Select Open With, if winrar is listed click on it, if not select Choose Program...
If you don't see winrar in that list, you'd have to click on the Browse button to find it
Once selected/highlighted, MAKE SURE you CHECK ON the box, "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file", and click OK.
THere, all done, so from now on, winrar will open your .rar file
There's another way, but this is the fastest way.

To change the file association for rar files:
open the folder that you have the rar file in
click on tools, folder options, file types
scroll down to the file type rar then change or delete the existing association
I recommend winrar for opening rar files and would recommend that you get and install this first, that way all you have to do is make a change rather than delete the rar association and then recreate it later when you get the software you want to extract the rar file
