I have the same problem, and I find that it works to just not have sweets in the house at all. Fruits are a good alternative, but I know that the kind of sweet in fruits is usually not what I'm craving when I want "sweets," so honey, which is probably healthier than candy bars, is my preference, and it's so sweet that a spoonful or two will do. Also, I feel better about eating granola bars than chocolate. And making tea (& adding honey) or chocolate milk is good for when I'm not even hungry.

I started eating frozen grapes instead of sweets. They are sweet like candy and they take a long time to finish, so if it's a munchie thing than it helps that too. If you're looking to completely break the habit then my advice would be to get it out of the house. Once it's gone you'll only miss it for a little while.

Smear a few maggots on the treat before you eat it. You will either be too grossed out to eat the candy, or offset the sugar by ingesting much high quality protein from the maggots. It's a win-win situation.

One lady who was a successful dieter kept bite sized candy available. The trick is to just eat one bite-sized piece to satisfy your sweet tooth, then stop.
