It takes love, love for one's neighbor, integrity, self-sacrifice. Most people in the world do not have and exercise these virtues because of insensibility toward others. Few, however, have had the courage to risk their own lives in benefit of others.

You know.. it's funny that you asked that question b/c I've been thinking the same thing!! Weird!!! I decided that I can't speak for anyone but myself and I decided I'm no longer going to be a spectator in this life. A person doesn't need a college education or lots of money to make a difference in this world and I realized that some people are just afraid to step out of their comfort zone. I, for one, decided NO MORE!
I made a huge step into a new life this week by bringing a teenager into my home to stay for a few years until she finishes school. She has had a terrible past that I don't wish on my worst enemy. She needs love guidance, help, encouragement and I just got tired of telling her 'this is the direction you must go'. I decided to show her instead & I just pray to God that I would set a good example for her. Although it's just one person.. it's a big difference ( I think) b/c I wish someone had believed in me the way I believe in her. You just need to stop being tired and do something.

Look around at your everyday life and you will realize how more than just a "few individuals" have made a big difference in the world.
An ingenious idea, a passion & a purpose are part of what it takes to do it.

I personally think it depends on the government, how much they are willing to help out their own citizens. If the government is corrupt then and not willing to listen to the people in their country that help run the country then they feel hopeless.
The governement needs to listen to the citizens of the country that live there, to make it better for all. If the corrupt government only cares about his/her greed and power, then that government won't help the common citizen that are not in power.
The government needs to equalize the citizens, making them feel equal to each other. Not the rich getting richer..and the poor getting poorer. The government still holds the power, but that government needs to treat citizens better, to run the country.
Everybody has to work as a team. It is hard to do it on your own. It has to start with a loving heart, and alot of passion for humanity, to make a big difference in this world. I want to make a difference too.
I just wish that I can tell the people in poorer countries to get rid of the corrupt government and vote for someone that is going to take care of the country, have more equalization for the people, everybody has heathcare, education, food/water, housing, better economy. Then work from there.

Because a lot of people just think about themselves.....but for the very few......they're driven by their goal....whether it be good or evil. I feel that anyone who doesn't set goals (realistic goals) in their life, won't be successful. So in my opinion, you start setting goals in your life, as you reach them, then set another, then another. Many many people make differences in the world....in their little part of the world they live in. Ask the firefighter who just saved the child from a fire, or the cop who just captured the murderer, or the paramedic who just revived someone having a heart attack. All of them are making differences, and in part...making the world a little bit safer and better place to live. I've always gave it my best shot............

I'm assuming you mean "make a big difference" for the better....
Most people are too busy with their own lives, their own personal battles, dramas, loves, pains, and stresses - to put too much effort into tackeling world-changing problems.
Also, the sheer size of the problems, and their complexity, means that most feel their actions are insignificant. Add to that the inherent human fear of change, and well, most people go back to their daily routine.
How to do it? *laughs* If I knew that, I'd change the world. But... I don't remember who said it, but the quote "Be the change you wish to see in the world." comes to mind. Don't just have strong beliefs, live by them. If enough people did, there would be big changes.

In a world where mediocrity is celebrated who can expect anyone to ever want to strive to anything higher? Poverty rates are so high that simply having a steady job is good enough to be thrown a big party for. Its not that people don't want to be movers and shakers; its mostly that not many believe its possible for themselves. When a hole is so deep that you can no longer see the top from the bottom its hard to aspire to ever get out.

So many are just lazy. Even more do not know their purpose in life.
Have you read the "purpose driven life" book? It inspires you so you can make a difference for the time you are here.
It makes a difference if you have faith, too. If you work for the glory of God, then the point is to reach "just one more".
If you get recognition for it or not, that's not the point.

I think that we all make a difference, and we will all influence those that follow after us. Some are recorded in texts, while others are forgotten. Most of all, I think God has a plan for each one of us, and those who rise up and lead the world are no better than those who succeed at their chosen path.

Passion. People who are high achievers are driven by a driving force that makes them soar above the average.
