hockey is a great sport. its fast,exciting hard hits and just about all the action you could ask for. i mean i enjoy a baseball and football game every now and then but i mean hockey is so much more exciting and fun then baseball could ever be and it's 100 times better then basketball i know its not an american sport and thats probly part of the reason people dont like it much but i think people should give it a chance and if you dont like it at least appreciate what the players do they're some of the best athletes in the world so i suggest you go check out a game and quit hating on hockey

Personally, I am a hockey fan. I also enjoy baseball, basketball, and football. I think people don't give it a chance because some of them are ignorant that it is a Canadian sport and pay no attention to it. Another thing is that they may not understand the rules of hockey. Some people may not like it because they think there is racism in hockey with more than 90% of players being white, which is ignorant thinking. Some may also find it boring. And, with many kids being fans of hip-hop, their favorite sport is more likely to be basketball. And to add, many people may gat turned off of the fact that in hockey arenas, they mostly play rock music and think that it is a sport for white people. I however, will continue to be a hockey fan and I will continue to support my New York Rangers.

I like hockey...same here. it's fast and exciting. Esp. those SO. I agree it's better than watching basketball. I like basketball too. but i prefer hockey. Football and baseball are cool to. BUt i gotta say baseball is my first love....then hockey. I think it also depends on where u live. Here in boston people love there pats and sox. Basketball and hockey not as much. in florida they like basketball and i have no i dea why they have a hockey team there...and of course in canada they worship their hockey. So it's a matter of location. And also since the lock out people arent so much into the game anymore. They should show more games on tv. I would love to watch other games other than the bruins...They need to advertise the game a little more.

People enjoy what they can relate to. Not many people in warm climates have the opportunity to play ice hockey because its an expensive sport and if there's no pond ice, its not something you're going to just give a try and see if you like it.....to much of a commitment for it. People enjoy the sports they grew up playing, football and basketball can be played at any park with a hook or any field with a football. Hockey is just too expensive to grab the casual fan.

hockey is the greatest sport in the world and in the U.S its hard to compete against American football, baseball and basketball but all these American sports get all the attention cause they know they will lose to hockey if the media in the U.S started telling the American viewers that hockey is a true sport with speed, skill and just great all around athletes. its the second biggest sport in the world and its funny that in the U.S its ranked like 5 most watched sport but ill tell you the number one reason why hockey is not that popular in the U.S is cause they don't dominate the sport, once they dominate then you will see more American fans enjoying this beautiful game my game Canada's game. but Canada will always be the true power of hockey.

My friend was visiting this weekend and watched the Sabres game with my mom, sister, and me (yep, a house full of females who are die-hard Sabres fans) and he complained that the puck was too small and he couldn't follow it. I think the average American male is too lazy to watch a fast paced game of real athletes doing something that requires a skill that isn't being disgustingly enormous, possessing at least one tattoo, and throwing an oddly shaped object. I love hockey because of the skill the players have Even the ones who do nothing but fight are incredible; I'd love to see two football or basketball players try throwing punches at each other while they were on ice skates! Oh wait, nobody's allowed to fight in those pansy sports, my bad.

The general American population doesn't like hockey for a few reasons. Most people play a sport because of their family history, or they play with friends. Hockey benefits from neither of those in America. Even if they did want to play, most families can't afford it. It costs a retarded amount of money to play. Plus, people like football and basketball because of scoring. People that don't understand the game don't see what's happening, so they lose interest quickly.

I read something that hockey fans are the most educated and most affluent people of any of the 4 major North American sports. It takes a lot to understand hockey, because it does have complex rules. At the same time, it's action is continuous, unlike the other 3 major sports.

Hockey is a great sport!! I have two Xbox hockey games at my house. I also play hockey outside in the winter with my brother and two friends. One Christmas I got a hockey set with pads, helmets, goals,pucks, and hockey sticks and we love to play in the street to this day. I do not know why other people do not play. They miss out on a lot of action and fun!!

I remember watching some game show on ESPN classic where they had athletes from every sport compete to see who's the fastest, strongest, most endurance, etc. Hockey players won by a long shot! Some people just don't have that kind of athletic ability. Second Americans are too slow and dumb to follow it, which is why i'm moving to Canada when I'm older.

Football fans get confused that the offense and defense play at the same time.
Basketball fans can't go more than a few seconds without watching someone score so they are going to find it boring.
Baseball fans are probably scared off by the pace. There just isn't enough waiting around for them.
To love it you need to understand it.
