i agree with mirch, it depends on what kind of contract you sign. The artist may get a percentage for every unit(cd/mp3/whatever) sold and then record company's and anyone else involved gets there share.

It all depends on what type of contract they signed. The record industry can be shady sometimes, or the artist can just be stupid/ignorant to the business.
Have you watched VH-1's "Behind the Music"? TLC was Platinum and broke at the same time.

Depending on the sales? Probably not much more than they did when albums were around.. penny's on the dollar.. Most artists make more touring..
