1) the government would be able to tax it
2) in keeping with number 1, they could control the quality so there would be less dangerous mixing with other drugs in it as happens now
3) people wouldn't be risking their lives in some of the worse neighborhoods to get it
those are some of the reasons. My Grandmother was prescribed during her cancer treatment many many years ago and it helped with the pain as well. I don't promote the use of illegal drugs, nor do I use them,(even if I wanted to , in my line of work there is no way) but of all the illegal drugs this one has proved to be less addictive and actually has some medical benefits in some cases.

From México, land of MarÃa Juanita...
FIRST) The fiber of Cannabis Sattiva plant is used to create wonderful clothes and many other products sold in funny lands as Denmark (Aarhus) and Holland (Amsterdam), where I was amazed of all the clothes and stuff I found in some shops where they not sell pot just for the pleasure of smokers.
SECOND) Although some may think weed is the starting point to become an addict buying other dangerous "hard" drugs, I think that its decriminalization can help youth to keep away from trying some new strong chemicals, or just discuss the danger of tobacco smoking in public and university forums but speaking as a medicine remedy, and in Méxicothat happens, when alcohol is filled with some mariguana little branches in a closed pot, after some days you can rub it on the muscles if you feel pain there or in case of arthritis.
THIRD) Pot smokers knows where to buy good marijuana in our days, and recognize the bad stuff sold ilegally nowadays, so to me decriminalization of Cannabis only helps that those who like the pleasure of smoking, eating cakes or drinking it as hot thea, be treated as criminals; after all, it's their desition to put their health in danger. I say this because to me there's no soft nor hard drugs, all will kill you if you abuse but also, if the government takes control of the production of weed leaving without job those dope sellers, people will find the same thing as it happened with alcohol after Capone: awful and cheap bottles of terrible drinks but champagne as well.
PS) Fab Butter to fly? You're not kidding, are you?

2. It will stop the criminal element that has risen up to grow, distribute and buy the drug
3. It will allow the growing of the hemp plant that has also been outlawed in the United States although it is less destructive to the soil then cotton and the uses are far greater then the uses of cotton.

1. The IRS can tax the sale of it, reducing the tax debt on the rest of us.
2. Reduce the number of people arrested, tried, and incarcerated; again reducing the tax burden.
3. Reduce the violence over turf. Sales would be monitored by the same laws of any other product.

Let's pretend it is available like tobacco is today. How many people are in prison for selling tobacco? How many are in prison for stealing to get money to buy tobacco? How many cops are dedicated to finding tobacco sellers?
Here are 3 good reasons (out of many):
1. Fewer prisoners
2. Less crime
3. More police paying attention to real crime.

If legalized (not just decriminalized), can increase job market through farming and FDA could regulate to decrease possibility of lacing. Decrease crime as it would be commercially available (also could be taxed and help economy).

Reducing tainted stuff that kills people or makes them ill, by standardizing/regulating quality; reducing drug trafficing and funding of illegal activities, and the violent crime that goes with it; increasing government revenue, they'd tax the behjeebers out of it.
