Put the key in the ignition, make sure you're in neutral, turn the key as far right as it will go till you hear a vroom sound.

Hello First of all are you connecting the jump leads correctly? The last connection should be you daughters car Negative and that should not be to the battery terminal but to a good earth like the engine lifting eye. Get a Volt meter then when the other car (Slave) is running (Leave for 5 to 10 minute to top up your daughters car battery) Take a volt reading across your daughters car battery as you slowly rev up the Slave car it should go up to 14.5 Volts and no higher regardless of how much higher you rev the Slave car. When you start your Daughters car remove the jump leads and do the same check this time revving your daughters car. If you get the same sort of readings the Charging system is OK. If it goes higher than the 14.5 Volts then the Voltage Regulator in the Alternator needs replacing and may have cooked the battery as well. In both cases switch off engine and leave for 5 minutes and without starting the car check the battery again. If you get 12 Volts the battery is OK. If you get less than 12 volts the battery needs replacing, Batteries have 6 X 2 volt cells but if 1 is damaged you will only get 6 X the lowest cell so if a damaged cell gives 1.5 Volts you will only get a reading of 9 Volts. If you all of this you will have checked both the Battery and Charging system. Andy C

If all you did is put the charger on the battery, the battery shouldn't have been disconnected. If you did disconnect it, with the charger off the battery reconnect it, tighten the terminals and start it. If will run poorly for a bit until the computer reprograms itself and learns to idle again, also you will have the clock and radio buttons to reset.
