i get really reallllllly baaaaaadd cramps. I have been known to fall over screaming from these things and thats when im taking Midol and other pain killers as well. They go down a little with a hot water bottle and heat but i can't always lie down with that. Also i feel as if i might throw up but i never do, i also get incredibly exhausted and all pain killers make me even more tired so i end up missing school for 4 days because im either in so much pain i can't move without screaming or I'm falling asleep. I asked my doctor and he said that he could put me on antiestrogen pills but i reallly don't want to do that. he also suggested birth control but because i just got a boyfriend my mum won't hear of it. Does anyone have any advice?

tell your mother to get over her fears for the sake of your health

Pamprin is better than midol but probably not as good as something your doctor could prescribe
exercising
avoid salt
avoid caffeine
portable heat wraps (that way you re not attached to a heading pad cord)

Oh, ouch, I feel your pain. The same thing use to happen to me when I was in high school. I use to miss school at least a few days a month because it hurt so bad. I felt all of the things that you described and no medicine or hot water worked for me. I know you said that your mom won't let you go on birth control, but that's what worked for me. Now I barely get cramps and when I do they aren't nearly as strong as they use to be and they pass quickly. Is there any way to change her mind? Maybe do some research on the pill and it's affect on cramps...? If you can show her that you want to go on the pill only to help with the cramps and not for any other reason do you think she might reconsider?

I feel your pain. Has your doc mentioned the posibility of endometriosis? It is a condition where uterine tissue is growing outside of your uterus, which can cause really bad cramping. I was having the same kind of problems....missing 3 or 4 days of my life every month...since I was 12! However, one of the first things the doc will want to try is a combo of pain meds (like prescription Ibuprofen or another NSAID) and birth control. You may want to take your mom to talk w/your gyno so she can understand WHY bc may help. BC pills can help by slowing the growth. Mine was very advanced by the time they caught it and had caused a lot of scarring and what not. They did surgery (don't worry.....its a last option kinda thing, and it isn't a bad surgery at that), then put me on meds to induce menopause for 6 months, and now he has me on birth control scheduled so that I only have 4 periods a year. I feel like a different person! Don't suffer for years before you make someone figure out what is wrong and how to fix it!

I always had the worst cramps ever. I started out with midol, pain pills and a heating pad. Birth control helped me too. Alot of women specifically get on birth control to alleviate cramps. Your mother should really listen to what the doctor has to say about this.

Eventually, I had a laparoscopy done. The doctor thought that maybe I had endimetriosis. I didn't, but while in surgery, he cauterized my nerve endings and that really helped. It's been awesome ever since.

Try to help your mom understand that you wouldn't be missing school so much and you would have a better quality of life, if you just try to figure out how to be cramp free.

Good luck to you!

Make sure you're getting enough iron... this can make your cycle alot easier! Also, the only pain pills that work for me at all are alleve, so you might try that if you haven't.
They have disposable, stick-on heating pads too! I've never tried them because they're a pretty new product... but it sounds like that might help you out. U can find the heating pads with the feminine products stuff at most stores.
Birth control pills would probably help you out alot, but I can understand where your mom is coming from. I would try talking to her about it... if that would work at all with your mom!
Good luck, and take care of yourself.

At the onset of menstruation (your periods) your body needs about 3 - 4 times more calcium to keep up your body's growing demand. Calcium truly is a naturally wonder full calmative and pain killer, however, if you are deficient in it you will experience terrible cramps and nausea as you have described. On top of that you at that stage of your teenage years when you are going through yet another growth spurt, increasing your bodies vitamin demands even more. Get mum to get you some calcium tablets and fish liver oil tablets (contain Vit. D.). Vitamin D is needed for the proper absorption and utilisation of Calcium. Talk to your local pharmacist about dosages etc....they are a wealth of information. Really and truly, you don't need to be going through this pain. I reckon mum is right, avoid the pill like the plague.........with all the chemicals our bodies are exposed to these days, why expose yourself to even more??? You just need to pump up calcium and Vitamin D intake and you'll be just fine.............Cheers...:)

Mine used to be this bad. I got on Estrostep birth control and now it's SO much better.
As for your mom not letting you get on it because you have a boyfriend is, well, stupid. Honestly, if you're going to have sex with him, you're going to have sex with him, reguardless if you're on the pill or not. If I was her I'd be happy that you're on it and know that if you do decide to, you're that much more protected from getting pregnant.
Anyway, depending on the state that you're in you can go to planned parenthood and get it there, without your mother's concent. Trust me, it makes a HUGE difference.
Your mother should realize how much it could help you and be a little more open minded.

When I was 14 I was put on birth control for cramps, it worked wonders. I'm sorry your mom won't consider birth control, maybe talk to the doctor about talking to your mother.

There is a Yoga move that you can do it helps with cramps. First you sit with your hip to a wall, then you turn your body towards the wall so that your butt is now on the wall. Then you lay your upper body down while keeping your but on the wall and your legs extended. I suggest you do this on your bed if its pushed against a wall or on the floor.
