I have had aquariums before, so I know how to run them and all. But now I am setting up a ten gallon aquarium just for me and want to get at least one goldfish ( a black moor goldfish to be somewhat precise ;p). What other fish should I get to go with it? Can I keep beta fish in the same aquarium?

I think you should get some Darwinian fish... they are fun to watch as they evolve into a slightly higher life forms. Given enough time, some are even able to gain the rudiments of the lowest levels of humanoid intelligence. They grow little folded hands and bent knees and they begin to believe in God... the little darlings.

A 10 gallon tank isn't even big enough for one goldfish! They create so much waste and can die from their own ammonia. And they also can get up to 12 inches long!

And the only thing you can put with goldfish are other goldfish or minnows. The other fish at the pet store need warmer temperatures.

Why don't you get a heater and get some tropical fish like some guppies? They're active, pretty, and have lots of babies!

goldfish prefer the company of other goldfish. they have cooler water requirements. I keep bamboo shrimp with mine. 3 goldfish in a 10 gallon will grow happy fat and sassy in no time -- i have a black moor a silver lionhead with yellow wen and chocolate oranda together. the variety is nice and they are happy together.

bettas and goldfish don't make friends -- goldfish are not very peaceful and will end up getting their butts kicked if the betta decides to fight.

goldfish are also high maintenance -- look forward to weekly gravel vacuums and water changes -- i do about 25% a week.

Bettas are tropical fish and gold fish are cold water fish. Plus, bettas need more protein in their diet so it would work out. If you get a black moor you can only house other cold water fish - goldfish and rosey reds. If you have a tank of black moors you can only have 2, 3 tops otherwise your tank will be over crowded and cause disease. If you get a betta you can house one male betta with up to 9 zebra danios (danios I have found to be the best with bettas) or 9 other one inch fish such as neon tetras.

look more for tetras than anything else if it is a small aquarium. Also, goldfish can be really aggressive and kill other fish. I would shy away from grouping them with others.

it's not recommended to keep more than a goldfish in 10 gal. goldfish create alot of waste. If anything I would recommend something like an algae eater.

don't put 2 or more beta fish together because they'll kill eachother. I think they're fine with other fish

Blackened catfish or trout in a buerre blanc sauce with capers wouldn't work, I am guessing.
