In your opinion, of course, it's a completely subjective question

Of the answers to date 'Call Me Al' is obviously streets ahead of the rest in terms of creativity and invention. There is even one passage that was recorded and then played backwards on the final cut to get the right effect......brilliant.

Rock bands in general do not have good bass players, so you have to look to other genres before you see the real artistry in bass playing. Funk jazz tends to be pretty good, but my favourite is Tamla. The majority of the great 60s/70s material was played not by some cool black guy with a slick attitude, flares, tie-dye shirt and an afro, but by a middle aged white housewife. I think that her name was Carol Kay............Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Temptations, Diana Ross, Four Tops....take your pick, she played on them all.

Well Empanda its so refreshing having a question to answer that I could go on about all night so nice one for that! I was one of the old heads up at Gatecrasher when it first opened at the Adelphi (Sheffield) before all the Super club Sh......theads and stuff. Love the old old house music and stuff that can be seen as a underground I suppose? Anyway in terms of The best bassline in the world ever - i reckon its impossible to say . Try anything by the Stone Roses in there early days and that would have to make anyones top three! Keep up with the questions! Nice One Dan ;

The one I like to play the most is Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love".

But technically, the best ever bass lines were written by J S Bach - just listen to his work and concentrate on the multiple bottom lines.

The live version of 5:15 by The Who. Good bass line and unbelievable solo.

Probably I Am the Resurrection by the Stone Roses. The bass is quite long and very well done, and there is also a really good bass solo towards the end.

Primus has alot of good bass lines. For Ex: My name is Mud.

I am also partial to Nrivana's Sliver.

Morphine has some good bass lines, considering there is no guitar player in the band, only sax, bass and drums.
