Are you crazy? England already has the best midfield in the world with Lampard, Gerrard, Joe Cole, Lennon, and Hargreaves. If the team needs another midfielder for some random match when the other guys can't make it, take Carrick or even Beckham. Scholes is seriously worn out. England has no need for him at this point.
...And incidentally, England's problem isn't in the midfield. It's up front.

I think Scholes has had his best years as an England international. We don't have a major cup to compete in until 2008 and we should be picking and gearing up the young blood for that and the next World Cup in 2010. Scholes will be knocking on a bit by then and although I'm sure he will still be an excellent player its time to invest in the young talent who will be at their prime, with the experience of a few years international football under their belt, when it comes to the big occasions. The Beckham/Scholes days are gone and didnt bring home a trophy, the Lampard/Gerrard combo isn't fulfilling its potential despite a good few years of rehearsal. It's now time to move on and try something new. We must look forwards and not back to something that never worked in the first place.

I think Mclaren should be the one who is retired.
There is too much politics in the way England is managed. Scholes retired because he was sick of the way team selection was being done by secret committees and not on the basis of what was best for the team. It was the same process that got rid of Beckham at exactly the wrong moment.
Mclaren is another shabby little amateur that couldn't manage a leg over in a whore house.
If we can't revive Brian Clough...then we need to find the closest equivalent and give him...or her...absolute authority to bloody well manage!!!!!!!!!

Even though Paul Scholes has played the best so far this season, out of himself, Frank Lamapard and Steven Gerrard, i personaly don't think that Scholes should come out of international retirement.
Engalnd already have major headches in the centre of midfield with Lmapard, Gerrard, Hargreeves, Parker, what would be the point of adding another problem to yet an already packed midfield.

No as he has done the right thing to let a younger player have a go.
New blood is needed and because the is a lack of young english players in the premiership,Mclaren should be daring and look in the championship or at freshly premoted team such as Sidwell at Reading.
If he keeps on doing what every one else has done,England will always get what they have always got!
Change is needed and it is needed now.

He has tried and failed to get Scholes back in the England fold on many occasions , but its obvious he no longer wants to play international football.

Scholes, Beckham and Sheringham. We need the experience to help bring Walcott, Dawson et al. through to being the world class players that they have shown they should become. Under the right guidance!

McLaren has already done so and been refused twice. Scholes should stay firm and focus on his club career.

He can't, as the wee ginger won't come back, which is a real shame as he's playing really well this year. He offers the point of a 4-5-1 midfield that nobody else does.
