please help with warhammer 40k tabletop?

umm i recently started playing but now i want chaos marines but i need help, how do i collect, lets say i choose the tzeentch so do i just get the thousand sons for my troops or can i also get regular chaos marines and paint them like the thousand sons, what about vehicles can i get a defiler and paint it like a tzeentch or what please help

While I haven't played the game, I have friends that have. As I understand it, it's a basic rule of thumb that you can't play with a certain style of troops unless you actually purchase that specific set. If you play in a friendly group, though, they might let you repaint your troops to play with a set that you don't actually own, but it would't be legal for sanctioned tournament play.
