Find someone who knows how to sew and have one made. It costs a lot less, it can be made to fit you perfectly, you will end up with exactly what you want, and you won't have to worry about someone having the same dress as you.

Most people here where I live get their dresses made by someone. You can look for a style you like from a magazine and even choose one from a famous designer like we do around here. I don't know if where you live you will find someone who will do it for about the same ammount of money as if you bought it in a store but if you want something really amazing and that will fit you beautifully it is better to have it made. You can find thousands of fashions at style.com, bluefly.com or nordstrom.com. You can also try to find a pattern which will make it easier since all you have to find is someone that sews at vogue patterns.
