What kinda engine you got?

Fuel injection, Turbo, straight carb, twin carb, Diesel?

Have you got an ECU or an Electronic Engine Management System? These things are notorious for causing chasing and erratic idling.

Can be a lot of things from a faulty valve incorrect mixture long list a good mechanic will know by ear and probably put it right in minutes.

If the engine is cold like on my Diesel truck or my Honda, the engine will make more revolutions per minute( it will rev up more) to protect itself from shuting off and from the cold so that can be also
