She left to finish writing a novel she'd started years earlier. And I think she wanted to get more involved with the ballet and of course Sam was completely opposite of anything ballet - so Diane left. Enter Kirstie! lol lol

i think it was in the episode where they were going to get married but she left him because she needed to find herself.
